If you have a story that haunts you, a story you can’t start or one you can’t complete, this may be the class for you.
Crafting the Short Story
In this eight-week course we will learn the basics of crafting a short work of fiction including narrative, dialogue, character, setting and scene. But mostly we will explore the joys and pleasures of watching words align to create a fictional dreamscape out of our own interests and obsessions. Class critiques and discussion provide an inspired and supportive environment in which to create. On-site writing exercises and discussion.
About Jessica Argyle
I write about all things Florida, especially the Keys. I started teaching this class because of the lack of good writing workshops outside of an academic setting. Many of my students in Montreal have gone on to study Creative Writing and/or have their work published.
“No Name Key,” published in 2013 is a historical novel that began life as the winning entry for TSKW’s “Writes of Spring” contest and has since gained endorsements from TD Allman, Kirkus and others.
“Arrest Me (before I write again),” published in 2011 is my short story collection “Mangrovia,” my second novel is a work of contemporary literary fiction and will be released in January 2017.
Jessica currently at work on a sequel to “No Name Key.”
Jessica holds a Master of Arts, specialty Creative Writing, 1998 Concordia University, Montreal
