On loan to The Society’s The Navy in Key West exhibit is the only known painting of an unprecedented show of U.S. naval force in Key West during the Virginius Affair in 1874 which helped postpone war between the United States and Spain.
KWAHS will host a FREE brief presentation by Tom Hambright and a champagne reception to celebrate the arrival of this extraordinary painting by I.H.F. Düksen on loan to The Society on Friday, July 28 at the Custom House Museum from 5:30pm – 7:00pm.
Hambright, from the Key West Library’s Florida History Department, will give a brief account of the Virginius Affair, calling particular attention to specific elements of the painting.
