Today’s Toys, Tomorrow’s Treasures.
A Free Toy-Appraisal Clinic Hosted by Carolyn Remmey

The Edna Wolkowsky Dollhouse at East Fort Martello, 3501 S. Roosevelt Blvd., with its collection of antique dolls and toys, served as a focal point for the Key West Art and Historical Society’s free toy-appraisal clinic that was held Febuary 16, 2008, from 11:00 a.m. until Noon. The event was free and open to children and parents.
Host Carolyn Remmey briefly discussed the dollhouse and its contents and then appraised items brought in by children, accompanied by a parent or guardian.
Toys are meant to be played with, but how do you know if your toy will be a collectible someday? Children were invited to attend the free toy-appraisal clinic to learn about toys, their history, their value, and how to add to an existing collection.
Examples of future collectibles are:
Matchbox cars, comics, action figures based on the Star Trek, Lord of the Ring or Harry Potter series, dolls, collectible cards, pez toys, first edition / first printing books signed by the author, beanie babies, stamp and coin collections, dollhouses and miniatures, MacDonald, Disney, Burger King or Wendy’s food chain related toys, puppets, marionettes and jewelry.
Caroline Remmey is the owner of a New York area appraisal firm, Remmey Antique and Fine Arts. She is a certified USPAP personal property and fine art appraiser. For the last six years, she has organized appraisal clinics for KWAHS, donating all the fees to support museum programs. She is a sponsor of the KWAHS summer ArtCamp program.
Attendees were encouraged to bring a toy along with blankets and portable chairs for seating in the garden.
